HEART presents SAMCAR with Golden Hardhat Award

The Housing Endowment And Regional Trust (HEART) has presented the San Mateo County Association of Realtors® (SAMCAR) with a Golden Hardhat award for the Realtors’ and affiliates’ generosity in gifts of funds and time to the organization.

HEART is a public/private partnership between the County of San Mateo, 17 cities and the private sector, which raises funds to create more affordable housing in the county. The San Mateo County REALTORS® Foundation has been one of HEART’s strongest supporters, contributing over $85,000 in the past three years.

“Our Realtors are proud to support an organization that increases affordable housing stock in San Mateo County and puts funds into the work force and senior housing, keeping housing at affordable levels so  people are not priced out and can live and work here,” said Denise Aquila, SAMCAR’s Charitable Foundation Chair.

She added, “I encourage our Realtors to donate a little bit of their commission, specifically for HEART. The best thing we can do is to continue our support for affordable housing because it is what we stand for and we need to put our money where our mouth is. We’re the best people to do it.”

Aquila said SAMCAR has donated more money to HEART than anyone else in the county.

“I want to thank our Realtors for their donations. Housing affordability is a problem in San Mateo County. It’s important to get employers to come on board and support HEART because funds that go to HEART are spent locally, within the county,” said Aquila.

She said some employers have stepped up to the plate and come up with creative efforts, such as providing local assistance to employees for down payments and closing costs.

Aquila said HEART is always looking for a steady income stream to fund affordable housing and if Realtors are on top of it, they will garner more support for their business.

Proceeds from SAMCAR’s annual golf tournament, which will be held in July are slated to go to HEART and Aquila encourages SAMCAR Realtors and affiliates to participate in the fun and worthwhile event.
