SAMCAR Observes Independence Day with Patriotic Songs and Attire

Friday, July 6, 2007

SAMCAR marked Independence Day in a special way this year, with red, white and blue colors and attire, along with patriotic songs and narrations rendered by various members.

Donned in a patriotic red, white and blue hat, SAMCAR President Geoffrey Craighead introduced the program at Tuesday’s Combined Marketing Meeting. Paul Davis and along with other SAMCAR members, led the singing with songs like “This Land is Your Land,” “You’re A Grand Old Flag,” “Columbia, The Gem of the Ocean,” “I’m a Yankee Doodle Dandy,” “My Country ‘Tis of Thee,” “America the Beautiful,” and “God Bless America.”

Director Pete Aiello read the inspirational poem, “Hats Off, the Flag is Passing By.” Steve Titsworth, dressed as John Adams, gave his rendition of the Declaration of Independence, while Cherie Alonzo sang the “Star Spangled Banner.”

In the midst of festivities, Director Bobbie Decker reminded everyone that part of a citizen’s responsibility is to participate in political affairs and the best way to do so is to VOTE. She encouraged Realtors to register to vote, if they have not already done so.

“You can’t change a system if you don’t register and vote. … There are lots of changes in the wind, but you can’t vote without being registered,” said Decker.

Another way Realtors can get politically involved, said Decker, is by contributing to the REALTOR® Action Fund. She underlined the importance of the REALTOR® Action Fund to a Realtor’s business. The REALTOR® Action Fund is the $197 contribution that appears on a SAMCAR Realtor’s membership dues billing statement. Every REALTOR® is asked to make this voluntary contribution when paying their local board, the California Association of REALTORS® and National Association of REALTORS® dues. Funds raised through the REALTOR® Action Fund are used to support candidates who are sympathetic to Realtor issues and toward supporting or opposing issues that impact Realtors.

If you haven’t registered, you may obtain a voter registration form at SAMCAR’s office at 850 Woodside Way in San Mateo. Voter registration forms are also be available at tour meetings. You may also contribute to the REALTOR® Action Fund online or by contacting SAMCAR at (650) 696-8200.
