Members of the San Mateo County Association of REALTORS® (SAMCAR) supported HEART (Housing Endowment And Regional Trust) at their 2007 Annual Charity Golf Tournament and Auction held Monday, July 23, at the Peninsula Golf and Country Club. Approximately 250 people attended the event, which included golfing, a banquet dinner, live and silent auctions; 120 members took to the green and joined the tournament. SAMCAR Director David Zigal of David Zigal REALTOR®, served as Master of Ceremonies at the banquet dinner, auction and awards ceremony. Zigal recognized the evening’s special guests: San Mateo County Supervisor Jerry Hill, Deputy Mayor of the City of San Mateo and Chair of the HEART Board Carole Groom, Mrs. Republic of the Philippines - Mrs. World Christine Acha, former Forty-Niner Offensive Lineman Dave Fiore, former Forty-Niner Linebacker Frank Nunley. Supervisor Hill also served as auctioneer for the evening, and successfully encouraged the bidding for charity. Zigal also thanked SAMCAR’s 2007 Corporate Sponsors for their year-round support. Proceeds from the tournament and auction will go to HEART, a public/private partnership between the County of San Mateo, 17 cities and the private sector, which raises funds from public and private sources to meet critical housing needs and create more affordable housing in San Mateo County. The San Mateo County REALTORS® Foundation has been one of HEART’s strongest supporters, contributing over $85,000 in the past three years. HEART recently presented SAMCAR with a Golden Hardhat award for the Realtors’ and affiliates’ generosity in gifts of funds and time to the organization. At the dinner, Groom thanked SAMCAR members for their support and donations through the years. “You are incredible. What HEART is about is opportunity, first time homebuyers, trying to raise money and get into homes, and all you do just makes us closer to our goal. Thank you for what you’re doing tonight,” said Groom. Denise Aquila, chair of the the San Mateo County REALTORS® Foundation, thanked participants and sponsors of the event. “Our Realtors are proud to support an organization that increases affordable housing stock in San Mateo County and puts funds into the work force and senior housing, keeping housing at affordable levels so people are not priced out and can live and work in San Mateo County,” said Aquila.
