Event CoverageSAMCAR’s 2007 Accomplishments Highlighted at December Combined Tour Meeting![]() Wednesday, December 5, 2007
With SAMCAR 2007 President Geoffrey Craighead at a C.A.R. meeting out of town, SAMCAR’s incoming president, Sue Walsh, presided over SAMCAR’s December Combined Tour Meeting. She first introduced SAMCAR’s new CEO, Philip Tedesco, and then shared impressive figures of the association’s 2007 accomplishments. Tedesco, who officially began as position as SAMCAR CEO on November 12, served as the chief executive officer for the Santa Cruz Association of REALTORS® since February, 2002. Prior to coming to California in 2002, Tedesco was the vice president of marketing at the REALTOR® Association of Greater Miami. Tedesco greeted SAMCAR members and said he looked forwarded to getting to know the membership. In 2007, SAMCAR’s Board of Directors met 12 times and each tour area held meetings an average of 39 times. Approximately 1,600 members attended SAMCAR special events, which included the SAMMY’s, the Charity Golf Tournament for HEART, the Membership Appreciation BBQ, Charity Spaghetti Feed to benefit Shelter Network and HIP Housing, Affiliate Bowl-a-Thon, Holiday Installation and Coastal Holiday Mixer. There were 186 SAMCAR member volunteers for this year’s RSVP – Realtor Service Volunteer Program, which helped 160 seniors in San Mateo County. Five broker/manager meetings were held, with approximately 800 brokers and managers in attendance. SAMCAR provided 8,152 hours of education in 2007, which included video classes, live seminars, E-Pro classes, REInfoLink (now MLS Listings Inc.) classes, including 3,232 hours of designation programs for SRES, CRS200 and GRI. She also announced 300 new members attended Industry Insights in 2007. Walsh noted the two areas most important about SAMCAR are professional standards and ethics and legislative affairs. “These are the two things we’re all about,” she emphasized. She reported more members contributed to the REALTOR® Action Fund (1,553 members), CREPAC (755 members) and the Fed CREPAC (712 members) this year compared with last year. Walsh encouraged members to continue with their PAC contributions, which she deemed very important to the REALTOR®’s business. Walsh told members she would like 2008 to be “a year of teamwork and input,” with members working together and actively participating in SAMCAR programs and events, and providing input to the association. She stressed, “There is strength and better success when working together rather than going it alone.” In closing, Walsh shared the poem “Sense of a Goose,” which points out that people who are part of a team and have a common direction and sense of community get there quicker. She said she wants all members to feel “it is a reward, a challenge and a privilege to be a contributing member of the team.” The San Mateo County Association of REALTORS® (SAMCAR) is a professional trade organization representing over 3,800 REALTORS® and Affiliate members engaged in the real estate business on the Peninsula. SAMCAR promotes the highest ethical standards of real estate practice, serves as an advocate for homeownership and homeowners, and represents the interests of property owners in San Mateo County. The term "REALTOR®" is a registered collective membership mark which identifies a real estate professional who is a member of the National Association of REALTORS® and who subscribes to its strict Code of Ethics.
