SAMCAR Realtors Raise Over $7,600 for Coastside Hope

Saturday, December 15, 2007

Coastside Realtors and affiliates with the San Mateo County Association of REALTORS® (SAMCAR) will make the holiday season brighter for homeless, low income and working poor individuals and families. They successfully raised a total of $7,646 for Coastside Hope at their annual holiday breakfast and auction held Tuesday, Dec. 11 at Harbor House in Half Moon Bay.

Coastside Hope is a nonprofit multi-service center which assists disadvantaged Coastside residents in San Mateo County. Many of the agency’s clients are immigrant and Hispanic families who work in the fields and service sector, and lack transportation and health care.

Rose Serdy, a Realtor with Alain Pinel Realtors, has organized the event for the past four years. Serdy thanked the volunteers and the Realtors and affiliates for their generous donations of auction items. She reported $6,300 was received from the auction item gifts, $800 from the mystery boxes, $546 from other agents, “just because.”

“I thank all of you from the bottom of my heart,” said Serdy. “You are all amazing wonderful people!”

Approximately 60 people attended the holiday event, which featured Santa Claus as the special guest. Realtors and affiliates from the Half Moon Bay area donated numerous items for the auction, which took place after a gourmet breakfast with smoked sliced salmon with capers and other trimmings, breakfast burritos of four different flavors, along with pan roasted potatoes with red bell pepper and scallions cooked by Bill Griffis (Wells Fargo Home Mortgage).

Phil Bruno of Exclusive Fresh Seafood of Princeton by the Sea donated all the seafood items; Mark Hamilton of The Montara Bistro & Party Flavors Catering, golden fingerling potatoes; Griffis, vegetables, cheese and other items; Shelly Morasci (Old Republic Title Company), fresh fruit salad; Jan Antonelli (First American Title Company), fresh pastries and bagels; and Chelsea Robertson (North American Title Company) coffee and beverages. Griffis, Nate Serdy (Alain Pinel Realtors), Morasci, and Linda Hollister (Alain Pinel Realtors) also served the breakfast.

Auction items included an array of beautiful holiday floral arrangements, wine, gift certificates for dinner and weekend getaways. Michael Rain, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker, was the event’s auctioneer.

Serdy, who received SAMCAR’s Community Service Award at the association’s holiday installation dinner on Dec. 12, said supporting Coastside Hope is a way SAMCAR’s Half Moon Bay Realtors and affiliates are able to give back to the community.

“Coastside Hope is near and dear to my heart and that of other Realtors,” said Serdy. “As Realtors we put people in homes, and Coastside Hope assists those who have become homeless and prevents others from becoming homeless.”

In addition to donating proceeds from the holiday breakfast and auction to the agency, SAMCAR Realtors participate in the agency’s Adopt-a-Family program, providing clothes and toys for the holidays to local families and seniors. Coastside Hope, in association with Second Harvest Food Bank of San Mateo County, also gives away hundreds of bags of food throughout the year and Realtors help distribute these food items to local families each month.
