SAMCAR received the San Mateo Area Chamber of Commerce Medium Business Award on Thursday, Jan. 18, at San Mateo’s 12th Annual Business Awards and Membership Meeting. The annual awards were presented by the San Mateo Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of San Mateo at a special dinner held at the Peninsula Country Club in San Mateo. Chamber officials recognized SAMCAR for donating over $100,000 for homeless and low-income families in 2006. They noted SAMCAR has been a vital partner in efforts of local agencies like HEART (Housing Endowment And Regional Trust) of San Mateo County and Peninsula Habitat for Humanity, in helping provide housing for individuals and families of all income levels. “A staunch supporter for affordable housing for San Mateo County residents over the last three years, SAMCAR’s Charitable Foundation as contributed over $85,000 to HEART and over $55,000 to help Peninsula Habitat for Humanity build homes for low income families in the county,” Linda Asbury, Chamber President and CEO. Maxine Dumas of Dumas & Company, San Carlos, and Tom Thompson of Realty World Thompson Properties, San Mateo, accepted the award on behalf of SAMCAR. “We’d like to thank everyone. It’s a great honor to be recognized and to accept this award on behalf of SAMCAR,” they said. SAMCAR also received congratulations from California State Senator Leland Yee, California State Assemblyman for the 19th Assembly District, Gene Mullin, and the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, who commended SAMCAR for its “dedication to serving the needs of the people of San Mateo.” The state and local officials also applauded SAMCAR’s “valuable contributions and service to the community.” Other business award recipients were Bay Meadows Land Company, Small Business; First National Bank of Northern California, Large Business; PG&E, Good Neighbor; San Mateo High School’s Leadership Program, Community; HIP Housing, Mayor’s Award, and Robert Batinovich, the Frances Bohannon Nelson Legacy Award. Chamber officials said the business climate for San Mateo “just keeps getting better.” “San Mateo enjoys the largest retail business in the county; it’s a power city,” said Funkhouser. “In 2007, San Mateo is coming on it own as a location of choice in which to live, to work and to sleep, and like San Jose and San Francisco, it’s attracting and retaining businesses and residents.” The San Mateo County Association of REALTORS® (SAMCAR) is a professional trade organization representing over 3,800 REALTORS® and Affiliate members engaged in the real estate business on the Peninsula.
