San Mateo County Realtors Celebrate 2006 Sales Achievements

Friday, March 30, 2007

The real estate market is alive and well in San Mateo County. This message rang true throughout last Thursday evening’s event, as 86 Realtors from the San Mateo County Association of Realtors® (SAMCAR) were recognized for their 2006 sales achievements at SAMCAR’s 12th Annual Sales Achievement Milestone Awards (SAMMYs). Four hundred Realtors and affiliates attended the celebration, which was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Burlingame, and included an elegant dinner and dancing.

Five Realtors received the Platinum SAMMY, the most coveted award of the real estate industry, for closing 50 or more real estate transactions in 2006. Eight Realtors received the Gold SAMMY for closing 35 or more real estate transactions; 25 Realtors received the Silver SAMMY for closing 20 or more real estate transactions. One team received the Silver Team SAMMY for closing 40 or more transactions; 46 Realtors received the Bronze SAMMY for closing 12 or more real estate transactions; and one team got the Bronze Team SAMMY for closing 24 or more real estate transactions.

John Gieseker (Prudential California Realty, San Bruno), SAMCAR’s immediate past president, served as Master of Ceremonies. Gieseker described 2006 as a good year in residential real estate on the Peninsula, even as the market transitioned to normal conditions. Local Realtors who worked hard to close transactions had good reason to celebrate their accomplishments, said Gieseker.

Receiving the Platinum SAMMY were Mary Bee Thrasher (RE/MAX Today, San Carlos), Patricia Dwyer (Cashin Company, Burlingame), Rosa Amanda Holm (Prudential California Realty, Burlingame), Stanley Lo (Green Banker, Millbrae) and Orhan Tolu (Century 21 Alliance, San Mateo).

A special highlight of the evening was the presentation of the 2006 Emeritus Designation to 17 members. The National Association of Realtors® (NAR) bestows the Emeritus Designation to those who have been members in good standing for a continued period of 40-plus years.  The honorees included Charles Crotty (Prudential California Realty), Paul Davis (United Property Sales), Charles Fisher (Fisher Realty), Edward Guglielmetti (Marshall Realty), Vernon Heller (RE/MAX Today), Gordon Kenny (Kenny Realty), Ronald Marlin (Marlin Properties), Robert Marshall, Sr. (Marshall Realty), Gene Mickelson (Prudential California Realty), Harold Mindell (Harold Mindell, REALTOR®), Norman Parham (Alannor Enterprises), Stan Silverstein (Silver Realty Company), Dan Slavin (RE/MAX Today), Joseph Welch, Jr. (San Bruno Investment), Denny Williams (Denny Williams) and Grace Woods (Grace Woods Real Estate).

SAMCAR Executive Officer Janet Case presented the prestigious honor to the members, who took to the stage and shared some memorable remarks.

“It’s been a long and beautiful ride,” commented Charles Fisher, who joined NAR in 1962.

“I’ve been fortunate to be involved in real estate all these years,” said Bob Marshall, who also joined NAR in 1962.

Harold Mindell, who joined NAR in 1960, assured his fellow Realtors that “it’s okay to retire.”

Stan Silverstein, who joined NAR in 1965, in turn, noted, “I joined NAR and C.A.R. (California Association of Realtors®) and SAMCAR, and I got much more out of it than I put in.”

Laughter and applause greeted Dan Slavin, who joined NAR in 1962, and remarked, “I don’t understand what I’m doing here with all these old people!”

Grace Woods, who also joined NAR in 1962, summarized everyone’s feelings. “I’ve been in the real estate business since 1942 and I’ve loved every minute of it,” she said. “It’s been a great experience, and I’d recommend real estate as a career to everyone.”

SAMCAR then recognized Jeanne Garde (RE/MAX Today) for her many years of support, enthusiasm and energy on behalf of the Association. SAMCAR President Geoffrey Craighead described Garde as a “very special, dedicated member, who has given of herself a tremendous amount of time and dedication to working tirelessly on the RE InfoLink MLS Board. You have given unselfishly, and for all your efforts, we are very thankful. We salute you for a job well done.”

Robert Pedro of McGuire Real Estate presented the Platinum awards; Greg Hill and Chito Desuasido, both with Washington Mutual, presented the Gold awards; Cheryl Dehoney and Mike Colyer, both with Countrywide Home Loans, presented the Silver awards; and Maryann Bologna and Anson Chan, SAMCAR 2006 Affiliates of the Year representing The Examiner, presented the Bronze awards.
