Lots of Development in San Bruno

Friday, April 20, 2007

“San Bruno is not a lot different from other cities in the Peninsula. The city faces the same financial problems, but the good news is there is a tremendous amount of new development in San Bruno,” Larry Franzella recently told SAMCAR Realtors and affiliates.

Mr. Franzella was introduced at the April 17 North Tour Meeting by Dave Gehre as “a longtime friend of the real estate industry.” He is the Mayor of San Bruno, former president of the North San Mateo Board of Realtors and former SAMCAR Board President. He gave SAMCAR members a brief report on the state of the city, listing numerous projects in the works and those slated to take place in the near future. Here are just some of thee projects:

* The Tree Top Apartments by Skyline Blvd. and Sharp Park Road have been approved for redevelopment. The 308 units will be replaced by 510 units.

* Lunardi’s will be completely remodeled.

* The construction of 24 single family homes next to Lunardi’s should begin this summer.

* As a result of a recent landscape agreement, the median strips and red rock from Skyline Blvd. to I-380 will be eliminated and replaced with professional landscape through the upper end of San Bruno.

* The Peninsula Christian Fellowship Church will not be rebuilt; instead, there is an application for 14 town homes on the 18-acre site.

* 70 single family homes are slated to be built at the Carl Sandberg site by Evergreen.

* At the Crossing by the old navy base, the second phase involving 185 apartments is scheduled to be completed.

Mr. Franzella also encouraged Realtors to look into Village Crossing, the new senior complex.

“We’re very proud of our senior complex. It’s a spectacular facility,” Franzella exclaimed.

The complex is for seniors 55 and older and is a hundred percent affordable, he said. The highest income for a couple is $59,000. There are 228 apartments in the complex.

The San Bruno mayor said sites known as parcels 3 and 4 across and behind the complex have been approved for 350 condominiums on two buildings, of which half will be immediately sold and the other half will be rented and then sold later.

Also at the navy site a 20,000-foot parcel is reserved for a full service high-end restaurant and hotel.

“There is much going on in San Bruno. I invite all of you to take a look at all the new development taking place,” said Mr. Franzella.
