SAMCAR Presents Checks to HIP Housing and Shelter Network

The San Mateo County REALTORS® Foundation at the Combined Tour Meeting of the San Mateo County Association of REALTORS®,  formally presented HIP Housing with a check for $15,000 and Shelter Network, with a check for $10,000.

The check presented by San Mateo County REALTORS® Foundation Chair Denise Aquila and Foundation Trustees Steve Balian, David Weigert and Kathie Monozon to HIP Housing, were proceeds from SAMCAR’s Spaghetti Feed, held this fall at the Italian Peninsula Club.

In addition to money received from the Foundation through a previous donation, Shelter Network received money personally donated by Steve Herbert and from Herbert’s company Washington Mutual Home Loans, which matched Herbert’s donation.

San Mateo County REALTORS® Foundation Chair Denise Aquila thanked everyone for supporting events like the SAMCAR Spagetti Feed and for donating to the Foundation. She said she is pleased HIP Housing, Shelter Network, HEART, Samaritan House, CORA and other agencies the Foundation supports, are able to receive a substantial amount of money through the generous donations from Realtors and affiliates.

Aquila said Herbert’s donation and Washington Mutual’s gesture to match their employee’s donation is a novel approach to helping people in the community. She encouraged members working with non-profit companies to establish partnerships with their employers and other companies who would be willing to match funds donated by their employees.

"It's just another place to go to help people in our communities," said Aquila. “Individually we can help, but together we can truly make a noticeable difference.”

Aquila also noted the Foundation has already received over $130,000 this year - more money than it had given out last year. “In a year when people are struggling, it's great to see that there are people who are stepping up to the plate, and that we have actually increased the amount we're donating to the community this year," she stated.

Aquila said the Foundation is slated to present major donations again next month.
