Realtors Donate $23,000 for the Homeless

San Mateo, CA - The San Mateo County Realtors® Foundation has donated a total of $23,000 to Shelter Network and HIP Housing. The funds were raised from the San Mateo County Association of Realtors® (SAMCAR) Charity Spaghetti Feed and Auction held on Sept. 21 at San Mateo ’s Peninsula Italian American Social Club.

San Mateo County Realtors® Foundation Chair Denise Aquila (RE/MAX Today) presented representatives of both organizations each with a check for $11,500 during the San Mateo County Association of Realtors® (SAMCAR) Combined Marketing Meeting held at the San Mateo Elks Lodge on Tuesday, Nov. 7.

Shelter Network provides housing and support services for homeless families and individuals in the San Francisco Peninsula , to help them re-establish self-sufficiency and return to permanent homes of their own.

HIP (Human Investment Project) Housing is a non-profit organization in San Mateo County that enables people with special needs, either from income or circumstance, to live independent, self- sufficient lives in decent, safe, low-cost homes.

“These organizations count on us to be there for them. We are their funding mechanism. Thank you for your generosity in participating in our fundraiser and giving to the Realtors® Foundation,” Aquila told SAMCAR Realtors and affiliates.

Amy Wright, Development Manager for Shelter Network, and Bruce Hamilton, executive director of HIP Housing, accepted the checks for their respective organizations.

Wright, along with Karyl Eldridge (Coldwell Banker) and Kathie Monozon (Financial Title Company), thanked the Realtors and affiliates for their donation and noted SAMCAR is a source of pride to the organization.

“You know more than anyone the benefits received by 3,500 families at the five shelters in San Mateo County what it means to put a roof on their heads,” Wright said.

Bruce Hamilton, executive director of HIP Housing, thanked SAMCAR for the donation and told Realtors and affiliates that HIP Housing is entering its 35th year of operation and currently has four different programs serving about 2,000 people.

“We help people find a way to live in safe, secure affordable housing. We couldn’t do it without you,” said Hamilton.

Hamilton also invited Realtors and affiliates to donate gifts to HIP Housing’s Holiday Store, which enables children of low-income families to purchase gifts for family members at a low cost of between 25 cents and $2.
