San Mateo County REALTORS® Foundation donates over $100,000 for homeless and low-income families for 2006 Year

San Mateo, CA - The San Mateo County Realtors® Foundation has donated a total of $100,542 in 2006 to different non-profit organizations that help homeless, low-income individuals and families in the community. Foundation Chair Denise Aquila announced the good news to Realtors and affiliates of the San Mateo County Association of REALTORS® at a Combined Marketing Meeting held at San Mateo’s Elks Lodge on Tuesday. Dec. 5.

Aquila thanked SAMCAR members for their 2006 donations.

“You help support causes that are truly worthwhile,” Aquila said.

During the meeting, Aquila presented $10,000 to Peninsula Habitat for Humanity and $7,500 to CORA.

Peninsula Habitat for Humanity builds homes for low-income families in San Mateo County through volunteer and community support, providing low-income families with an opportunity to break the cycle of poverty through its affordable homeownership program.
 
On behalf of Peninsula Habitat for Humanity, June LeBarre, fundraiser coordinator, and Mary Boudin, executive officer, thanked SAMCAR members for their continued support.

“Your donation is very significant to us. You help spread the word about the importance of affordable housing and how homeownership can make a difference in the lives of families,” Boudin said.

Cora Development Director Natasha Guest, who earlier had accepted a $700 check from the Women’s Council of REALTORS® San Mateo Chapter, thanked SAMCAR and WCR members.

CORA is the only agency in San Mateo County with the sole purpose of serving victims of domestic violence. The agency provides free and confidential emergency, intervention and prevention services, including the county’s only emergency shelter and transitional housing for victims. Guest said CORA serves about 11,000 people each year.

“Our organization serves women, men and kids who are in abusive relationships and helps heal the abuse they have suffered,” Guest said. “We also help them get back on track to they can have healthy relationships. … SAMCAR and WCR make up the fabric and help us restore wholeness in the world.” 

The San Mateo County REALTORS® Foundation was formed by the San Mateo County Association of Realtors® to provide community service activities. Through the Foundation, SAMCAR helps needy individuals and non-profit organizations based in the cities that SAMCAR serves. Past recipients have included local schools and educational foundations, programs assisting the homeless and those in need with shelter and food, domestic violence prevention, home renovations for those in need and programs serving the youth of our communities.

The San Mateo County Association of REALTORS® (SAMCAR) is a professional trade organization representing over 3,800 REALTORS® and Affiliate members engaged in the real estate business on the Peninsula. SAMCAR promotes the highest ethical standards of real estate practice, serves as an advocate for homeownership and homeowners, and represents the interests of property owners in San Mateo County.
