NAR Analysis: Congress Passes Tax Bill
The U.S. House of Representatives and Senate passed the congressional "tax reform" bill—The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. While NAR remains concerned that the overall structure of the final bill diminishes the tax benefits of homeownership and will cause adverse impacts in some markets, the advocacy of NAR members, as well as consumers, helped NAR to gain some important improvements throughout the legislative process.
"Mortgage Choice Act" Passes House
"The Mortgage Choice Act" - a NAR-Backed bill with bipartisan support that makes two adjustments to the Truth in Lending Act's definition of "points and fees" - passed the U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday, April 14.
‘Innovation Act" Reintroduced in the House
The Innovation Act (H.R. 9) was re-introduced in the House and would require plaintiffs to disclose who the owner of a patent is before a lawsuit is filed and demand that plaintiffs explain why they are suing a particular defendant in their court pleadings. NAR is a member of the ‘United for Patent Reform' coalition supporting such legislation.
House Opposes Clean Water Act Over-Regulation
H.R. 5078 will prevent the EPA from treating waters on private property as so-called "waters of the U.S." under the Clean Water Act.
