The San Mateo County Veterans Commission will host its 5th annual Veteran of the Year awards ceremony virtually this year on November 10, 2020, where they will honor those who served our country. The Commission asks you to consider nominating individuals for the Veteran of the Year, Enterprise of the Year, and Patriot of the Year awards.

On Tuesday, July 21, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors again extended the residential eviction moratorium. The eviction moratorium now ends on August 31, 2020. The Supervisors have received some emails from small Mom & Pop property owners who have been deeply affected by the moratorium. If you have experienced financial hardship due to the moratorium or know someone who has, please email gina@samcar.org, to make sure the Supervisors hear your story. In the absence of information to the contrary, there is a good chance that the County Supervisors will again pass an extension of the eviction moratorium.

The California Association of REALTORS® Education Foundation is excited to offer for the second year in a row the WomanUP!® Scholarship. The scholarship application is available on C.A.R. Education Foundation online section of our website. The deadline to apply for this scholarship is Friday, August 14, 2020. The Department of Real Estate (DRE) issued a News Release today relating to Governor Gavin Newsom's Executive Order N-71-20 issued June 30, 2020, which impacts DRE applicants and licensees. In relation to this new order, DRE has posted new FAQs on its website.

The Department of Real Estate (DRE) is cancelling real estate salesperson and broker license exams at the Oakland Examination Center in Alameda County through July 31, 2020. This action is being taken to comply with state and local public health agency orders to assist in slowing the spread of COVID-19.

Each year, the SAMCAR Foundation awards thousands of dollars in grants to housing-related charitable organizations, but the pandemic and stay-at-home orders have dramatically altered our fundraising plans. The need in our community is now greater than ever and support from SAMCAR can be a lifeline for these organizations to get through this challenging time. We may not be able to host our regular fundraiser events this year, but we haven't given up hope! California Association of REALTORS® (C.A.R.) Assistant General Counsel Gov Hutchinson reminds REALTORS® that open houses are not currently permitted in California. Hutchinson advises that in order to "present a true picture under Article 12 of the Code of Ethics, REALTORS® ... should not be putting up Open House signs at all" at this time. The annual Supra® key fee payment was due by June 30, 2020. A $50 Late Fee will apply after August 1, 2020. The Key Fee has been reduced for member keyholders who have eKey Basic, with SAMCAR underwriting the cost of the reduction. All Supra® Key holders / Supra eKEY app users must pay this fee.

The SAMCAR Foundation is delighted when we receive updates about the programs that our grants support in San Mateo County. In September 2019, the SAMCAR Foundation announced awarding a $4,500 grant to Rebuilding Together Peninsula in our Q3 grant review cycle. In June 2020, we received a message of thanks and an update that these funds were used to support Rebuilding Together Peninsula's "Safe at Home" program. The program which "helps seniors, families, and people with disabilities live more independently by addressing minor repair needs before they become serious safety or deferred maintenance issues" serves more than 130 households every year, according to Rebuilding Together. We extend this gratitude to our generous members and donors whose ongoing support makes funding grants like this one to Rebuilding Together Peninsula and the work they do in our county possible. Thank you!
