"I'm so proud of the SAMCAR Foundation, we get to give back to housing related communities in need, through our grants to such worthy organizations," said Foundation Council Chair Alfredo Mendoza. "They help those in need, in such amazing and diverse ways."
Read below for more about the services each of these organizations provides in San Mateo County and how their work aligns with the SAMCAR Foundation's mission.
Community Overcoming Relationship Abuse (CORA) was founded in 1977 and is San Mateo County's only provider of comprehensive domestic violence prevention services. Services include 24-hour crisis line, emergency shelter, supportive housing, legal services, mental healthy, prevention and education services. CORA responds to approximately 10,000 requests for service each year. CORA's Safe House is the only one in San Mateo County specifically created to support victims of domestic violence. Their free services align with SAMCAR's Foundation Vision of "Striving to provide a roof over every head in San Mateo County."
Samaritan House is being awarded a grant from the SAMCAR Foundation to support their Homelessness Prevention Program, an initiative that aligns closely with SAMCAR Foundation's Mission and Vision. The Program offers a wide range of support to help individuals and families at risk of losing their homes remain stably housed through the delivery of emergency and safety net services and proven methods of care designed to support housing stability, facilitate permanent housing, promote life stabilization and foster self-sufficiency. As San Mateo County's contracted Emergency Financial Assistance administrative entity, Samaritan House distributed direct financial rental assistance, enabling families to avoid eviction, which is one of the most effective services they offer. Samaritan House was established in 1974 by Public Health nurse Cora Clemons.
