The U.S. House of Representatives and Senate passed the congressional "tax reform" bill—The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. While NAR remains concerned that the overall structure of the final bill diminishes the tax benefits of homeownership and will cause adverse impacts in some markets, the advocacy of NAR members, as well as consumers, helped NAR to gain some important improvements throughout the legislative process.

On Tuesday, August 22 the SAMCAR Young Professionals Network (YPN) group hosted "Make Your Home Smarter," an informative "Smart Home" technology panel featuring representatives from Nest, Centriq and Intuitive Environments. In addition to gaining insight into smart home technology and what developments are on the horizon, attendees helped raise over $1,600 for the Samaritan House as part of C.A.R. YPN's "Month of Giving" charity drive.

C.A.R.'s Housing Affordability Fund's Homeowners Association Grant Program will provide qualified first-time California homebuyers up to six months of HOA dues, not to exceed $2,500. SAMCAR members gave a warm welcome to State Senator Jerry Hill at the Combined Tour Meeting on Tuesday, July 5. Senator Hill presented Certificates of Appreciation to outgoing and incoming SAMCAR Directors, with a special acknowledgment plaque to Phil Houston for his service as C.A.R. Region 25 Chair.
