The San Mateo County Sheriff's office provided SAMCAR members with a list of 20 Real Estate Agent Safety recommendations.

C.A.R. was recently informed that a REALTOR® in Moreno Valley was physically assaulted during an open house. Fortunately, the REALTOR® was able to fend off the attacker when a family showed up to view the property. As a reminder, C.A.R. advises members to work in pairs during open houses and showings, whenever possible, and has created a safety video for tips on staying safe while showing homes, meeting clients and holding open houses.

Recently, a SAMCAR broker shared the story of a REALTOR® being attacked by a prospective "client" at a showing appointment in San Bruno, which was generated by an internet lead and set up through e-mail. We are told that the agent is ok and the authorities are now involved. With the number of potential risks in the course of conducting day-to-day real estate business, REALTOR® Safety is always a top priority of your associations. On Wednesday, August 16, SAMCAR Brokers and Managers were invited to expand their understanding of cyber security with John Wondolowski, Chief Technology Officer from CMI, who explained best practices and provided a list of "to-do's" for brokers and agents to follow to protect their personal and professional data as a lead-up to REALTOR® Safety Month in September.

The National Association of REALTORS® along with Carl Carter, Jr. surviving son of REALTOR® Beverly Carter—who was kidnapped and murdered while showing a vacant house—encourages REALTORS® and Brokers to create a Safety Program in your office.
