REALTOR® Safety: 4 Tips for Showing Property

Recently, a SAMCAR broker shared the story of a REALTOR® being attacked by a prospective "client" at a showing appointment in San Bruno, which was generated by an internet lead and set up through e-mail. We are told that the agent is ok and the authorities are now involved. Fortunately, the REALTOR® had notified a colleague about the showing appointment and location, and was able to dial 911 immediately after the attacker fled the property. With the number of potential risks in the course of conducting day-to-day real estate business, REALTOR® Safety is always a top priority of your associations. By exercising good sense and precaution, REALTORS® can avoid becoming targets.

4 Safety Tips for Showing Property

1. Always hold an in-office consultation with any unknown buyer before proceeding to a showing, and be sure to get a copy of the client's driver license.

2. Use the "buddy system" — let others know your location when showing homes.

3. Trust your gut — if it does not feel right, leave!

4. Always have at least two people hosting open houses.
