SAMCAR members gave a warm welcome to State Senator Jerry Hill at the Combined Tour Meeting on Tuesday, July 5. Senator Hill presented Certificates of Appreciation to outgoing and incoming SAMCAR Directors, with a special acknowledgment plaque to Phil Houston for his service as C.A.R. Region 25 Chair. State Senator Jerry Hill (D-San Mateo) has been appointed a member of the California Coastal Conservancy. The California Coastal Conservancy, established in 1976, is a state agency that guides the purchase, protection, restoration, enhancement of coastal resources, and access to the shore.

Rent control (AKA rent stabilization) is looming in San Mateo County. It is one of the foremost threats to private property rights and will impact home owners and tenants. Please contact your elected officials to oppose rent control in San Mateo County.

Assemblyman Kevin Mullin was recently sworn in as Speaker pro Tempore of the California State Assembly. Assemblyman Richard S. Gordon was appointed to serve as the Chair of the Rules Committee. Assemblyman Phil Ting received the nod to head the Revenue and Taxation Committee. Congratulations to all.

The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors has voted 4-1 to enact a second hand smoking ordinance that, among requirements, bans smoking in ownership units.
