Government Affairs staff and committees work with cities to protect your ability to do business, and mobilize members toward one of our primary objectives: protecting private property rights.

"The Mortgage Choice Act" - a NAR-Backed bill with bipartisan support that makes two adjustments to the Truth in Lending Act's definition of "points and fees" - passed the U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday, April 14.

ALERT: Air District Pushing Point-of-Sale for Fireplace Replacements
Replace the fireplace at point-of-sale in the transaction or risk the home sale being stopped. That's the proposal from the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD). Attend a public workshop on Monday, April 6 and/or contact San Mateo County's representatives on the BAAQMD board to express REALTOR opposition to this proposal.

San Carlos OKs Anti-Marketing Ordinance
SAMCAR members who routinely ‘farm' their neighborhoods in San Carlos will now be barred from doing so under an ordinance that prohibits the distribution of fliers, handbills, newspapers or other literature that isn't solicited or wanted on residential properties.

Help Preserve 1031 Tax-Deferred Exchanges
Your voice is needed. SAMCAR is joining with the Northern California Commercial Association of REALTORS® (NCCAR) to preserve 1031 Tax-Deferred Exchanges. Congress will be introducing tax reform bills in the next few months and Section 1031 Tax-Deferred Exchanges are directly threatened and could very well be repealed or severely limited.
