On Tuesday, January 6, 2026, C.A.R. Chief Economist Jordan Levine shared a California Housing Market Update presentation at the SAMCAR Marketing Meeting on Zoom. Read more to download the slide presentation.

The CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® (C.A.R.) issued the following statement on the passage of C.A.R.-sponsored bill AB 2992 (Nguyen):

"The California Association of REALTORS® applauds Gov. Newsom for signing C.A.R.-sponsored bill AB 2992 (Nguyen) into law as part of a package of bills that will strengthen protections for California consumers," said C.A.R. President Melanie Barker, a Yosemite REALTOR®. "By mandating buyer broker representation agreements, consumers will have more choice and more clarity about the services they are getting from the REALTOR® they choose to help them through a complex transaction.

We commend Assemblymember Nguyen for her commitment to safeguarding consumers and upholding the integrity of our industry."

State Farm and Allstate have announced they will no longer sell new home insurance policies in California because of wildfire risks and an increase in construction costs. Per Governor Brown's recent executive order to conserve water, the California Energy Commission approved energy efficiency and water standards (which are anticipated to save more than 100 billion gallons per year).

Assembly Speaker Toni Atkins (D-San Diego) unveiled a bill to increase funding for affordable housing by adding a statewide $75 real estate document recording fee. Home sales would be exempt.

AB 2416 (a bill that would've created a new kind of lien for wage claim disputes) failed the state Senate thanks in large part to the strong response from REALTORS®.

Gov. Jerry Brown signed AB 1393 providing much-needed state-level tax relief to homeowners by extending tax relief on forgiveness of mortgage debt by conforming California law to federal law for the 2013 tax year.
