AB 2416 Fails in state Senate

SAMCAR members opposed Assembly Bill 2416 (Stone), a bill that would've created a new kind of lien for wage claim disputes. Along with amped up communications in response to C.A.R.'s Call for Action, SAMCAR members have continuously voiced their concerns about the bill which denied due process to the owner of the property and unnecessarily clouded title.

You were heard: Our own Senator Jerry Hill voted NO on the bill and you should take the time to send him a note of appreciation, for his was a courageous vote.

You were heard: AB 2416 failed in the Senate on a bi-partisan vote BUT it was eligible to for another vote on Friday, the last day the Legislature was in session this year.

You were heard: AB 2416 required 21 'YES' votes to pass the Senate. It only received 13! The proponents were unable to muster enough votes to bring the bill up on Friday, and the bill died as the legislative session ended.

REALTOR® activism played a critical role in defeating what was a very bad piece of legislation. While C.A.R. worked as part of a coalition to oppose the bill, it was the thousands of REALTOR® calls, Tweets and Facebook updates that made the difference.

Redwood City Council Unanimously Opposes Rent Control Ballot Measure

In a decisive 6-0 vote, the Redwood City Council has officially opposed the Redwood City Fair and Affordable Housing Ordinance, which will appear on the November 3, 2026 ballot. The Council's decision follows an independent supplemental economic impact analysis that concluded the measure extends far beyond traditional rent control and could have significant unintended consequences for tenants, housing providers, affordable housing, and the City's financial stability. SAMCAR applauds the six Redwood City Councilmembers for carefully reviewing the analysis and taking a position based on the long-term interests of the entire community. We encourage Realtors, property owners, homeowners, and renters to learn more about the measure before casting their vote this November.
