Legislative Day Connects 2,500 REALTORS® with State Leaders

Legislative Day is the California Association of Realtors signature legislative event. And legislative Day 2026 did not disappoint. Over 2,500 California REALTORS® descended on the state capitol during the C.A.R. Spring Business Meetings and took advantage of the opportunity to meet and discuss real estate related issues directly with their state legislators and staff. Attending Legislative Day is not only a great investment in our members' businesses, but it also provides them with an opportunity to hear from California's most dynamic political leaders and the leadership of our state trade association.

SAMCAR members attended a very inspiring morning session where we heard from dynamic speakers like former California Assembly Speaker and Senate Majority Leader Bob Herztberg, Senate President pro Tempore Monique Limon, and Assembly member Juan Alanis.

SAMCAR members then attended our annual joint luncheon with the Santa Clara County Association of Realtors and Silicon Valley Association of Realtors. Assembly member Diane Papan was joined by her sister, former Millbrae Mayor Gina Papan, for a fireside chat during the lunch hour that touched on numerous political issues and classic sister stories of their commitment to service.

Assembly member Papan then kicked off our Legislative Day program as the first legislator to engage members regarding C.A.R hot topics. This year's hot topics included Senate Bill 1238 on HOA transparency (support), Assembly Bill 1406 which doubles the cap on liquidated damages in new condo real estate transactions (oppose), continued funding request for the California Dream For All program (support), and the California Middle Class Homeownership and Family Home Construction Act of 2026 (support).

Papan was followed in succession by Assembly member Alex Lee, State Senator Dave Cortese, Assemblymember Marc Berman, Assemblymember Patrick Ahrens, and State Senator Josh Becker. Lt. Governor Eleni Kounalakis was a very special guest speaker.

Redwood City Council Unanimously Opposes Rent Control Ballot Measure

In a decisive 6-0 vote, the Redwood City Council has officially opposed the Redwood City Fair and Affordable Housing Ordinance, which will appear on the November 3, 2026 ballot. The Council's decision follows an independent supplemental economic impact analysis that concluded the measure extends far beyond traditional rent control and could have significant unintended consequences for tenants, housing providers, affordable housing, and the City's financial stability. SAMCAR applauds the six Redwood City Councilmembers for carefully reviewing the analysis and taking a position based on the long-term interests of the entire community. We encourage Realtors, property owners, homeowners, and renters to learn more about the measure before casting their vote this November.
