Celebrating Pride Month: Highlighting the LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance

Photo of rainbow flag with sun and blue sky

June is LGBTQ+ Pride Month—a time to honor the history, achievements, and commitment to diversity and inclusion of LGBTQ+ communities. At SAMCAR, we join the California Association of REALTORS® (C.A.R.) in proudly celebrating the efforts that these communities champion every day. Supporting Pride isn't just about visibility—it's about fostering inclusion, community, and connection. In particular, we'd like to take this opportunity to highlight one of our valued partners, the LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance.

About the LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance

LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance

The LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance (or, simply, the Alliance), is a 501(c)6 non-profit organization is dedicated to empowering the LGBTQ+ community on their path towards—and the enjoyment of—homeownership. As an all-inclusive and all-embracing organization, the Alliance's mission is to Advocate, Elevate, and Celebrate!

The Alliance strives to improve the professional lives of their members while providing consumers the necessary resources to assist in all facets of the homeownership experience. The Alliance is also a leading advocate for the LGBTQ+ community in real estate and housing policy, working on behalf of all LGBTQ+ people on their housing needs.

Among the resources the Alliance has published are a 2022 report on LGBTQ+ Discrimination in the Real Estate Industry and the website LGBTPlusHomes.com, a consumer site that will not only share important real estate content to the LGBTQ+ community through a partnership with Keeping Current Matters, but also allows the LGBTQ+ community to connect directly to practitioners, as well as infographics providing insight on the diverse community.

The Alliance also pioneered the creation of its one-of-a-kind Certified Ally course, a training program that allows attendees to gain insight into the challenges LGBTQ+ home buyers and sellers may face and greater understanding of the LGBTQ+ community along with how "unconscious bias" impacts all of us.

In the few years since its inception, the Alliance has experienced remarkable growth, expanding to more than 3,100 active members and 35 chapters nationwide, with the majority of its membership concentrated in California and the Southwest region.

SAMCAR has been a proud partner of the LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance since 2022, and we are honored to support its continued growth and impact. Along with C.A.R., we believe that our strength lies in our unity. We remain steadfast in our commitment to preserving fair and equitable housing for ALL.

You can learn more about the LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance and their important work at realestatealliance.org

As we celebrate Pride Month, we reaffirm our continued commitment to building a future where homeownership isn't just an aspiration—it's an attainable reality for everyone.

History of Pride Month

On June 28, 1970, on the one year anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, the first Pride marches were held in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. Thousands of LGBT+ people gathered to commemorate Stonewall and demonstrate for equal rights. The events of Stonewall and the liberation movements that followed were a direct result of prior decades of LGBT+ activism and organizing. Learn more from the Library of Congress.
