The primary funding sources for SAMCAR Foundation grants are voluntary contributions made by SAMCAR members with their dues payments and fundraising from annual events. In 2018, 584 SAMCAR members contributed to the Foundation in their dues for a total of $17,492, which was augmented by over $28,000 raised at annual fundraising events and the South Tour Auction. As of January 2019, 553 SAMCAR members have made the voluntary $30 contribution with their dues for a total of $16,590.
In addition to funding from member contributions and events, the SAMCAR Foundation was awarded a $50,000 grant from the California Association of REALTORS® (C.A.R.) Housing Affordability Fund (HAF) in 2018. The funds from this grant have been used to assist qualified first-time homebuyers with closing costs expanding the HEART of San Mateo County First Time Homebuyer Program. As of February 2019, the SAMCAR Foundation has provided this assistance to eight first-time buyers in San Mateo County.
Grant applications are considered by the Foundation Council each quarter.
