The primary funding sources for SAMCAR Foundation grants are voluntary contributions made by SAMCAR members with their dues payments and fundraising from annual events. In 2019, members contributed a total of $16,653, in addition to over $23,000 raised at annual fundraising events and the South Tour Auction. As of January 2020, members have contributed over $20,000 to the Foundation—a 25% increase year over year.
In addition to funding from member contributions and events, the SAMCAR Foundation was awarded a $50,000 grant from the California Association of REALTORS® (C.A.R.) Housing Affordability Fund (HAF) in 2018. The funds from this grant have been used to assist qualified first-time homebuyers with closing costs expanding the HEART of San Mateo County First Time Homebuyer Program. In 2019, the SAMCAR Foundation provided this assistance to six first-time buyers in San Mateo County and has now dispersed all the grant money from C.A.R. HAF.
Grant applications are considered by the Foundation Council each quarter.
