Business Licenses

This business license application must be approved before a business license can be issued. No business activity can be conducted until a business license has been issued. Home Offices

The City of Millbrae allows residents to operate a business from their home once a City Business License and Home Occupation Permit have been obtained. This type of commercial business activity from a residence is described in Section 10-1.201 of the Millbrae City Code as a Home Occupation use.

Because residential areas are designated for peaceful home life type atmosphere and commercial activities create noise, parking and traffic problems, Home Occupations are subject to the following conditions:

1. No advertising signs. 2. No displays. 3. No stock or commodity stored or sold on the premises. 4. No customers. 5. No parking or business vehicles other than a private vehicle used by the dwelling occupant for transportation to and from work. No parking of employees or customers vehicles. 6. No mechanical or electrical equipment designed to be used in connection with a business use other than that normally found in a home that is necessary or convenient for domestic purposes. Redwood City Council Unanimously Opposes Rent Control Ballot Measure

In a decisive 6-0 vote, the Redwood City Council has officially opposed the Redwood City Fair and Affordable Housing Ordinance, which will appear on the November 3, 2026 ballot. The Council's decision follows an independent supplemental economic impact analysis that concluded the measure extends far beyond traditional rent control and could have significant unintended consequences for tenants, housing providers, affordable housing, and the City's financial stability.
