The Redwood City Fair and Affordable Housing Ordinance, which is anything but fair or affordable, has officially received its ballot designation and will appear before Redwood City voters on November 3, 2026, as Measure E.
The San Mateo County Association of REALTORS® (SAMCAR) urges all of our members who live in Redwood City to VOTE NO on Measure E.
This measure goes far beyond traditional rent control. It would impose new restrictions and requirements on housing providers that could reduce housing supply, discourage investment and new construction, undermine affordable housing, increase costs to taxpayers, and create significant new financial and administrative burdens for the City, including a new city department.
ALL single-family homeowners, accessory dwelling units, condos, townhomes, duplexes, triplexes, fourplexes, and mobile homes are also targeted for extreme rules and regulations.
After reviewing the measure and independent economic analyses, the Redwood City Council, which did not write the measure, voted 6–0 to officially oppose it, citing concerns about the measure's potential negative impacts on housing supply, affordable housing providers, small family housing providers, current and future development, investments in the city, legal liabilities, and the City's financial stability.
This is just the beginning.
SAMCAR will be providing our members with additional information, facts, talking points, and campaign opportunities in the coming weeks to help educate Redwood City voters about the measure and its potential negative, unintended consequences. ALL members are encouraged, even if you don't live or work in Redwood City, to work against this measure.
Please tell your friends, family, and clients that it is imperative that they understand what is hidden in this 46-page document, and to educate themselves about it. And stay tuned for more information and ways you can help protect Redwood City's housing future.
For now, remember to: VOTE NO on Measure E in Redwood City. Thank you.
